Laurent Chehere & Julien Pacaud
‘Paste-‘UP’s’ features a series of photo manipulations by two very talented French artists: Laurent Chehere and Julien Pacaud.
Through Cheheres’ dream-like images we are presented with a collection of sailing residential buildings of Paris that appear to be flying through the sky like kites. The images are the fruits of the artist’s travels through Parisian districts (Ménilmontant and Belleville), which have then been manipulated in order to express ‘the poetic vision of the old Paris’.
On the other hand Pacauds’ collages explore mesmerizing fictional spaces that welcome the observer with an inspiring conflict of the eccentric and the familiar. The images are mostly ‘retro’ visuals from the 1900s to the 1970s strongly influenced by both Magritte and a taste for the geometric. The collages construct scenarios and atmospheres that playfully suggest the captivating mythology of a not-too- distant future.
