The Stereotypical homeChung Chak
Chung Chak’s series ‘The Boxes’ illustrates stereotypes amongst modern civilisation, whilst enabling him to understand the United States. Being a foreigner, the Artist was ‘fascinated by imagining what happens behind the beautiful windows of Broadway in New York city.’
The images dwell on the nature of life in large urban metropolis as those of New York and Hong Kong, his new and old homes respectively. Through their grid arrangement the window photomontages moreover express the thematic of compartmentalization of life in high-density cities, where the Artist associates each window to the identity of the individual inhabiting the apartment.
