Local spa resorts face challenges due to their outdated cultural image and the disconnect between the built environment and its surroundings. These issues are central to this diploma project, which seeks to revive the historical core and propose a plan to rejuvenate the iconic identity of the Băile Herculane resort. The focus is on the former imperial baths. Consequently, the intervention area centers on the interstitial space between the structure and its landscape, particularly the rocky cliff that frames its silhouette. The solution employs two distinct approaches: subtraction and addition, ensuring that the intervention complements the historic image of the baths while preserving the site's character. Interior spaces are designed with structural principles that respect the intervention's environment, resulting in unique ceiling solutions tailored to their functions. The objective of this intervention is to integrate contemporary architecture seamlessly into the landscape and to promote awareness of architecture's role in achieving visual harmony by respecting the specificities of its environment.
The project was developed within the context of Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urban Planning (Bucharest, Romania).
