What if the High Seas were a country?
The liberation of the oceans begins with the elevation of its social and political agency. Through analysis of historical and literary perspectives rooted in art and philosophy, this proposal dismantles the humanised hierarchy of living. The Ocean Nation elevates the High Seas through a government and parliament of scientists, researchers, and anthropologists to speak on behalf of its citizens, both human and more-than-human. These governing bodies are grounded in a moving embassy, a democratic dome on foreign soil, under the jurisdiction of its home country, the High Seas. A Nation that challenges existing policies and legal theories that have facilitated resource extraction and the objectification of the natural world.
