Pasila
Valerie Marshall
Honourable mention | August Call for Drawings
Pasila draws its inspiration from the Finnish architect Reijo Jallinoja’s master plan for the brutalist Itä-Pasila neighborhood in Helsinki; Jallinoja’s design philosophy was that “the city should be a cybernetic machine.” The drawing reimagines the neighborhood’s urban form by blending together its key elements: nature, telecommunications, and elevated pedestrian networks. The drawing is part of an ongoing series exploring the physical infrastructure of the digital world. Originally a hand drawn illustration, it was scanned and digitally painted.
