Ukiyo. Land & The Pleasures of a Cyborg's Garden
Conrad Daniel Areta
Ukiyo.Land sets itself within a narrative post-human world that questions reality through the cyborg body, as posed within the “Cyborg Manifesto” by Donna Haraway and “The Machine in the Garden” by Leo Marx. As a design tool, the cyborg is used to respond to our climate, sustainability practices. It proposes an infrastructural leisure district, acting as a regenerative prosthesis within the local landscape. Ukiyo.Land uses designed responsive machine elements that use ecology and human physiology to clean the localised air, water and river waste. It poses the question: how would cyborgs recreate the Garden of Eden?
The project was developed within the context of the University of Westminster - School of Architecture and Cities.
